About
Spelling Center of the Quad Cities is founded on principle, and it shows in everything we do. We believe in the dignity of every human being, and that communication is an innate human need and God-given right. We presume the competence of our both our Spellers and their loved one's alike. We understand that everyone can and wants to learn and we do everything we can to help our clients achieve the freedom and autonomy they deserve, and we expect the same from those professionals and families with whom we work.
We are very specialized, we only work with those who's speech has been profoundly affected, and for whom other forms of communication have been illusory or insufficient. We teach simple, evidence-based methods to those people and families who want to achieve communication and are willing to work at it, and we are very good at what we do.

Kelly Wernke
Astounded by the lack of resources throughout the Midwest to help families of nonspeakers achieve an effective means of communication, Kelly immediately identified with the plight and frustration of parents and families of nonspeakers who knew their loved one was "in there", but had no way to get them "out". Driven to succeed in helping nonspeakers find their voice, Kelly Wernke became the first S2C Practitioner in the state of Iowa and founded the Spelling Center of the Quad Cities as a cornerstone for the Spelling to Communicate (S2C) method in the Central Midwest.

Spelling to Communicate (S2C) is hard, but fruitful work and often pressure and taking things too seriously can be counterproductive. We all need a little comedic relief at times and the laughter that comes from goofy goats, chickens, cats and dogs can be a great regulation tool and soothing to the soul.
