Is Spelling right for you?
In short, the answer is "Yes!"
If you are here, chances are that in your gut, you know your loved one is "in there", that they are smart and deserve so much more. It might feel like you have already tried "everything", but there is still that sneaky suspiscion that you just haven't found the right method yet... that is, until now.

Clients
Simply put: If speech is not a reliable form of communication for your loved one, then they would likely benefit from learning some form of spelling or typing guided by one of our highly trained Practitioners.
Our structured and progressive approach is a fit for children and adults alike. While 70% of current spellers are Autistic, the other 30% of spellers include those with Down Syndrome, Angelman's Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Pitt Hopkins, Phelan-McDermid, and other genetic conditions and symptoms that cause sensory-motor difficulties. We would like to see that other 30% grow.
Our process teaches the motor skills necessary for communication, and is not limited to those with Autism. We believe that all non-, minimal and unreliable speakers are a fit for our technique and that with time and practice, they can learn to communicate.
Do we really mean this can work for any non-, minimal or unreliable speaker?
Yes! If your loved one has ever learned how to do anything on their own, they have learned the motor skills required to do that thing, and if they can learn those motor skills, they can learn this.
With time and practice, they can find their voice, even if nothing else has worked for you in the past. While many of our spellers come from the Autism world, this method has also proven to be a life-saver for many people with other diabilities that affect motor and communication skills.
If one of the following describes your loved one, we can help them find their voice:
-
Non-Speaker - Someone who's primary means of communication is not speech, though they may communicate effectively using other forms of communication such as sign language or AAC.
-
Minimal Speaker - Someone who has very limited spoken language, and typically has very few words, though they too may be able to communicate effectively using sign language or AAC devices.
-
Unreliable Speaker - Someone can speak, but loops, scripts or is echolailic. They often have the ability to, and do speak, but cannot answer questions reliably and cannot have a full and robust conversation.
An essential part of creating a meaningful life is finding a reliable way to communicate our thoughts, opinions, feelings, experience and knowledge. Can you even imagine what that could be like for you and your loved one? Not having to guess what they need or what they're thinking, and finally getting to know this person you love? Planning the future with them, not for them?
We understand that it feels like you've already tried everything over the years, but give this a try! What do you have to lose?
Most family's only regret not having done it sooner!
